New Lotus Model Expected for 2020

The new Lotus Cars CEO also confirmed that all future models will eventually be electrified.

In a report by Autocar, Popham said that the all-new Lotus sports car is part of the brand’s five-year plan under Geely. It will be based on the existing Lotus architecture and will retain Lotus’ famed driving dynamics. However, it will be more practical and more suitable for everyday use, with an improved ingress, egress, ergonomics, and infotainment system.

Of note, the all-new sports car will bridge the gap between the current Lotus lineup and the upcoming next-generation platform where the Lotus trifecta would be based on.

“There’s this one car, then the new platform,” Popham said.

This would take, however, three to four years after the new architecture has been developed.

Moreover, Popham confirmed that all future Lotus cars will eventually be electrified, but that’s not the focus of the brand for now. “The focus for now is on replacing the products we’ve got today – the sports cars,” he said. “In a long time, Lotus has not had sight of what is required. You need a longterm plan, a product plan and a business plan locked down with investment. We have that plan locked in.”
