This, ladies and gentlemen, is our 2009 Land Rover Defender SVX - a special edition built by Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) department to celebrate Land Rover's 60th anniversary.

Based on the short-wheelbase 90, it was available as station wagon or soft-top, and this is 1 of just 90 soft-tops ever supplied in the UK, so rarity is definitely assured. All were painted black with "satin" effect body graphics on the vehicles sides and bonnet carrying the "60th" logo and it offered British buyers the first opportunity to buy an open-skies Defender since 1992. The soft-top was only available with two front seats with the rear load bay being used to accommodate the spare wheel and a lockable (underfloor) storage box. A new design of hood was used, sloping down towards the rear over a jointed folding frame, unlike the standard square-framed hood used on other Defenders. However this one has been replaced by a superb modern "bespoke" two-piece design which gives added versatility and ease of use.

As well as those gorgeous Recaro style seats which support occupants far better and transform the driving position from the usual Defender olden-days compromise into something close to ideal, the interior also got some other small but well considered additions such as a gorgeous three-spoke sports steering wheel, iPod connectivity, Garmin Sat Nav and a decent sound system. This one has also had all the brightwork (front grille and headlight surrounds, side steps and rollover bars) painted in gloss black, a front nudge bar/bumper fitted and those awesome 22" gloss black alloys which really add to the aesthetics and stance and give it a real stealthy look!

The Defender is a hell of a thing especially in SVX form, it's an institution, a bona fide worldwide icon and definitely a car you should drive before you die!
